Main Purpose of Job

The Health Promotion & Community Services Director is part of the executive team for the St. Mary's County Health Department (SMCHD).  The incumbent plans and administers all health promotion and community services programs for SMCHD.  This position is responsible for compliance with delegate authorities, laws/regulations governing work, and agency objectives.  Provides strategic direction and supervision to a team of program administrators and managers, community health nurse program supervisors/nurses and support staff.  The incumbent is responsible for the programs of Maternal Child & Elder Health including ACCU, EACC, MCHIP Eligibility, AERS and MAPC; the Chronic Disease Division including Cancer Control, Tobacco Cessation, Asthma Control, Cardiovascular Health, and Oral Health; Coordination of Community Services Program; and the Local Behavioral Health Authority.  This positions works with residents, community partners, and other agency units to ensure continuous performance improvement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in a health or human service field and at least 5 years of experience with managing public health or health services programs and 2 years of supervisory or managerial experience.

A Master's degree may substitute for up to 2 years experience managing public health or health services programs.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidates should possess:

  • Knowledge of grant proposal development to apply for grants and skills in managing grant funded programs;
  • Skill and experience in developing community collaborations;
  • Ability to manage subordinate administrative and clinical staff through project management,  strategic planning, and quality improvement projects and activities;
  • Direct experience in public speaking/oral presentations to diverse, multi-level audiences on topics that can be sensitive or unfamiliar, even controversial.

This is a Management Service position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  A resume must accompany your application.
