Introduction
The Maryland Historical
Trust, an agency of the Maryland Department of Planning, is seeking a
motivated, energetic and creative individual, who is committed to providing
outdoor educational experiences for children and adults, for the Museum Educator
position at the Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (JPPM). JPPM, the State Museum of Archaeology and a center
for both regional and statewide archaeological research, is located on 560
acres along the Patuxent River in Calvert County, Maryland, and is home to the
Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory (MAC Lab) which houses over 8
million artifacts.

Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
-Develops content and works as a team to conduct public
education programs.
-Plans and conducts workshops and demonstrations on
archaeological, historical, environmental or cultural topics, according to one’s
expertise.
-Works with staff to develop effective outreach
programs for community groups.
-Assists with the maintenance of structures and
supplies used by JPPM’s Education Department.
-Assists with Park events.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an
accredited four-year college or university.
Experience: One year teaching (K-12), museum education, or other related experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in history, education, museum studies, historic
preservation, anthropology/archaeology, environmental education, or related fields.
Experience in historical, archaeological, cultural, or environmental interpretation in a museum or park setting.
Experience with grant writing.
Experience working as a team to deliver a successful product or program
