Introduction

Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only statewide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Main Purpose of Job

MPT is seeking an experienced Producer/Editor to create client on-air sponsorship messages. This position will be responsible for the entire spot production process, from receipt of the production order, to spot creation, through delivery to our broadcast servers. The successful candidate will possess skills in managing clients through multiple levels of review, writing and concepting creative spots, as well as technical mastery of editing and production tools.  

This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Receipt of spot orders from the unit’s Senior Producer
  • Coordinating the use of spot priorities and editing facilities with the Senior Producer
  • Contacting the client to discuss message content direction and creative execution
  • Explaining FCC rules to clients as they pertain to their messaging
  • Writing creative messages that adhere to FCC rules and that satisfy client needs
  • Creating effective and pleasing layouts using photos, videos and graphics
  • Interfacing with MPT’s general counsel to obtain copy and/or finished spot approval
  • Interfacing with clients during multiple rounds of review
  • Directing voiceover talent
  • Producing and directing field and studio shoots when necessary
  • Editing client spots in AVID edit suite with CC Adobe Suite, including Photoshop & After Effects
  • Creating simple text and graphics in Adobe Photoshop
  • Interfacing with the Traffic department to advise spot completion date and to ensure proper scheduling
  • Keeping track of billable hours

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Film & Video Production or other applicable field

Experience: Must have at least 3-5 years of producing and editing experience with AVID and Adobe CC software

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must be provided prior to hire.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
