LOCATION OF POSITION

Jessup and Baltimore, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

To assess all incoming inmates in a designated institution for substance abuse problems and provide counseling, intervention, treatment and rehabilitation services to those inmates with substance abuse disorder(s). This may also include inmates that are dully diagnosed.

POSITION DUTIES

Provide substance abuse treatment on an individual basis twice monthly and two group sessions a week for two groups with approximately 15 members. Facilitate one aftercare services group weekly. Documentation of all group and individual notes to include treatment plans and discharge summaries in inmate files. Maintain contact with internal and external resources such as community based addiction providers in support of providing aftercare services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Certified Supervised Counselors-Alcohol and Drug.

Experience:   Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Certified Supervised Counselors-Alcohol and Drug.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07, candidates appointed to positions in this classification must be eligible for and obtain certification by the Board of Professional Counselors as a Certified Supervised Counselor prior to permanent appointment.  

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.    

2. Employees in this classification perform the work in a Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) or a Maryland State certified addictions program.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position. Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.
