Main Purpose of Job

The incumbent is responsible for training new hires on the payroll process and procedures, assisting all staff and supervisors with their leave, overtime and compensatory time questions and making corrections to time sheets within Workday.

POSITION DUTIES

This is a Human Resources (HR) Assistant position within the Agency and is responsible for assisting with the processing of time sheets of over 450 employees. This position is responsible for training new hires on the payroll process and procedures, assisting all staff and supervisors with their leave, overtime and compensatory time questions and concerns and processing time and leave using Workday and using payroll reports within the system.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum (AND selective; see section below) qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

EXPERIENCE: Two years of experience reviewing, verifying, recording, adjusting and balancing financial transactions.

NOTES:

1. Experience calculating and recording financial, statistical or other numerical data may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required high school education.

2. Six credit hours in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

3. A minimum of five courses or six months of accounting-related training in a vocational training program in subjects such as journalizing transactions, analyzing transactions into debits and credits, posting to a general ledger, payroll, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Financial Clerical/Finance Technicians classifications or specialty codes in the financial field of work at a rate of one year of military experience for the required experience.

 

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the selective qualifications to be considered; there are no substitutions available. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

One year of experience working in Human Resources

One year of experience year using COMAR (Code of Maryland Regulations) Title 17 for time keeping and leave.

 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

One year of experience using Workday computer software for time and leave

One year of workman's compensation experience.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service is required prior to hire.
