Main Purpose of Job

This position will report to the Quality Initiatives Department, which has oversight of, and responsibility for, internal and external quality programs which support the mission of the Office of Health Care Quality (OHCQ). This position will be responsible for implementation of the COMAR 10.07.06, Patient Safety Programs, along with related patient safety activities in Maryland hospitals. This position will also intake and classify reports of adverse events, review submitted root cause analyses for compliance with 10.07.06, and provide feedback and follow-up to hospitals.

This position will be responsible for the Annual Hospital Patient Safety Report, as well as for periodic clinical alerts on patient safety and other clinical topics of interest to the OHCQ's licensees. In addition, this position will facilitate and support internal OHCQ quality improvement projects, including data gathering and analysis; work with groups and individual employees, to identify and meet quality goals; and, on-going monitoring of performance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years of experience as a Registered Nurse, including one year of experience in an administrative, supervisory, consultative, or teaching capacity.

Notes: 1. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university, and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative, or teaching capacity, may be substituted for the required education.

2. A Ph.D in Nursing from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a Commissioned Officer in Nursing classification, or Nursing specialty codes in the Nursing field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience and education. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2.Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
