Introduction

Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only state-wide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.

This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

Main Purpose of Job

The Maintenance Mechanic performs duties to maintain the safe and efficient operation of MPT's HVAC, Electrical and plumbing systems. Also maintains the facility's physical appearance and grounds keeping. The Maintenance Mechanic also assists with such tasks as moving furniture, general and small equipment repairs and other general maintenance duties. The Maintenance mechanic also maintains inventory and possibly supervises outside contractors on special projects.

Note: Incumbent must be willing to work a flexible work schedule which may include nights, weekends and/or holidays. This position requires some outdoor work which may occur during unfavorable weather conditions. Incumbent must possess a valid MD driver's license and the ability to lift 50 pounds.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Maintain the facilities plumbing, makes minor repairs to fixtures, steam pipes and fittings. Also checks and maintains all sewer lines, cleans traps and changes filters.
  • Work with and help the facilities staff on special projects such as painting, electrical repairs, set-ups for meetings, courier services, and other duties as assigned
  • Maintain and monitor the HVAC system.
  • Maintain inventory of plumbing supplies and any necessary plumbing equipment or supplies needed to keep the facilities operating.
  • Make minor repairs to electrical equipment and building structures.
  • Work with the Facilities Staff doing snow/ice removal.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: At least three (3) years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades.  At least 2 years of this experience must be in electricity, plumbing, refrigeration or air-conditioning.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must be provided prior to hire.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
