LOCATION OF POSITION
Main Purpose of Job
PARK RANGER (4 vacancies)
A Seasonal Park Ranger is a temporary, introductory level of work in the operation of a State park. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
• Provide visitors with park information and regulations within the park’s contact stations, stores, campground and day-use areas
• Use of a computer and a point of sale system to register campers, complete reports and sell park merchandise
• Monitor and cleaning of campgrounds, bathhouses and restrooms
• General maintenance of park trails, public facilities, staff buildings and DNR vessels and vehicles
• Monitor (via motorized vehicles, bicycles, and on foot) recreational activities in the park, including but not limited to hunting, fishing, hiking and biking, swimming/beach area
PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER (3 vacancies)
The Seasonal Park Maintenance position is responsible for the maintenance of grounds, facilities and equipment in a park or recreation area. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
• Painting, electric, carpentry and plumbing work
• Tree and brush removal work
• Wood splitting
• Upkeep of vehicles, equipment and vessels
• Use of hand tools and operation of power equipment
• Clean restrooms, shelters, cabins and campsites
• Removal of litter
• Maintenance of facilities and grounds
• Mow and trim grass
TRAIL TECHNICIAN (1 vacancy)
The Trail Technician is responsible for the maintenance and construction associated with a trail network within a State Park. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
• Perform trail maintenance and construction based on guidelines set forth by the USDA Forest Service and the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA)
• Hike trails of varying difficulty
• Use of hand tools and operation of power equipment
• Mow and trim grass; remove and debris and clear trails
• Applicants must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Assist with general maintenance of the park, tasks may include: clean restrooms, shelters, cabins and campsites; removal of litter
PROJECT PLANNER (1 vacancy)
The Project Planner gathers first-hand information to create and submit written project proposals and project estimates. Project proposals will include trail maintenance, carpentry, plumbing and many other areas concerning the operation of a state park. Excellent organizational and computer skills are essential.
Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends as assigned to get an understanding of the needs for certain projects.
VISITOR SERVICES ATTENDANT (1 vacancy)
The Visitor Services position provides secretarial and financial duties for a State Park. Work may be performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
• Answer phones and greet customers
• Knowledge of: maintenance and mechanical equipment, fleet parts ordering, purchase orders and vendor bids a must
• Process mail
• Prepare cash deposits and supporting paperwork
• Photocopy and type documents
• Enter data using Excel spreadsheets
• Process seasonal contracts and seasonal timesheets
• Process bills for payment
• Provide visitors with park information and regulations within the park’s contact stations, stores, campground and day-use areas
• Use of a computer and a point of sale system to register campers, complete reports and sell park merchandise
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: None.
Experience: None.

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who works an average of at least 12 hours per week. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
