LOCATION OF POSITION
There are four (4) part-time position available, servicing the State of Maryland. Applicants will need to check off which areas they are willing to work on their application. There is one opening per each of the following regions, and the candidates applying must be willing to work in and around their selected region:
Central/Northern Maryland Counties (Baltimore, Baltimore City, Carroll, Cecil, Harford, and Howard);
Southern Maryland (Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Montgomery, and St. Mary's);
Western Maryland (Allegany, Frederick, Garrett, and Washington);
Eastern Shore Maryland (Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne's, Talbot, Somerset, Wicomico, and Worchester).
Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
- Contacting the presentation or event host prior to the meeting to confirm arrangements;
- Accurately locating the site of the presentation (such as school, government office building, hotel, etc.);
- Arriving at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled meeting or presentation;
- Bringing a sufficient number of marketing materials for the expected number of attendees;
- Welcoming participants, delivering the presentation with accuracy while engaging the participants;
- Accurately responding to all questions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 30 semester credit hours in one or more of the following subjects: English, journalism, public relations, writing or other similar and related areas of study.
Experience: None
Notes:
1. Additional experience in public information, public relations, journalism or other related experience in publicity or promotional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in public affairs specialist classification or public affairs specialty codes in the information and arts field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to learn and clearly explain all aspects of the program.
Ability to describe the challenges to saving and asset limitations for people with disabilities.
Demonstrated public speaking experience.
Reliable transportation and willingness to travel regionally to presentations and events.
Ability to work primarily in the evening and on weekends.

SELECTION PROCESS

The evaluation must be submitted with your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.
EXAMINATION PROCESS
The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position. You may be asked to complete a supplemental questionnaire. The supplemental questionnaire may be used as part of the rating process. Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.
BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
