Main Purpose of Job
The Director of Education will develop, implement, promote and evaluate Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum's school programs, outreach initiatives, public programs, and education-related events. By developing and implementing the programs that form the interpretive framework of JPPM, the position supports the Maryland Historical Trust's mission to preserve and interpret the legacy of Maryland's past.
This position supervises three education staff members, two seasonal contractual employees, and occasional volunteers.
POSITION DUTIES
Administers the education department; hires, trains and supervises Education Program staff.
Develops and administers Education Program budget.
Develops, markets, implements, conducts, and evaluates school programs, preschool programs, and summer camps; develops, implements, conducts, and evaluates outreach and offsite programs.
Seeks out, writes, and administers grants to secure funding for staff and public programs.
Represents JPPM at public events; attends workshops, and conferences regarding developments in the field of museum education; makes presentations regarding JPPM’s approach to education; evaluates educational resources and materials.
Assists with JPPM’s public programs and special events, participates in meetings as part of the JPPM senior staff, serves on program-related committees, and fulfills such other duties as assigned.
Exceptional writing and speaking skills a must.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Museum Education, History or related field.
Experience: Two years of experience in creating, developing and administering classroom based teaching, public history programs or other educational school programs.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in a related field.

Budget Management and oversight
Grant Writing
Public Event Speaking
