Freename Application

A Freename application is not an application to a specific open recruitment, but an application for a job classification. If you meet the specific Freename requirements (listed below) and the minimum qualifications for the classification, you will be placed on all eligible lists that are created for the specific classification in the counties you selected until your application expires.

Layoff and Separations

A Layoff is defined as a State employee who is removed from State service due to their position being abolished, discontinued or vacated because of a change in organization or stoppage of work. A Separation is defined as a State employee who is removed from State service when the funding for their position has been eliminated from the State budget.

Pending Layoff and Separations

A State employee who is anticipating removal from State service due to their position being abolished, discontinued or vacated because of a change in organization or stoppage of work. A State employee who is anticipating removal from State services due to the appropriation in the State budget for the position being reduced or omitted by the Governor or struck by the General Assembly.

Reinstatement

A former non-temporary State employee who was laid off or separated from State service, or has resigned in good standing, or returning veterans or reservists seeking to regain State employment, within three years of layoff or separation from State service. A Reinstatement can also be a current employee who seeks a return to a position in a classification they previously held.

Reinstatement applicants can apply for any previous positions that they have held in State service.  If these are not being currently recruited for, you can place a request to be notified when they are by clicking the "Interest Card" link to the left and following the directions to subscribe to one or more job classes.

Certified by Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS)

A prospective State employee with disabilities who has been certified  by the Division of Rehabilitation Services for State employment.

Transfers

A current State employee who desires to be transferred into the same position at another location in State government.

State employee transfer applicants can apply for any previous positions that they have held in State service except positions at a higher pay grade. If these are not being currently recruited for, you can place a request to be notified when they are by clicking the "Interest Card" link to the left and following the directions to subscribe to one or more job classes

Certified Disabled Veterans

A Certified Disabled Veteran is a prospective State employee who is an honorably discharged veteran, and is able to provide documentation of being on an U.S. Armed Forces permanent disability list with a disability rating of at least 30%, or has been rated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as having a compensable service-connected disability of at least 30%.

If a manager elects to hire from a certified list of disabled veterans who have served in any U.S. Armed Forces branch, candidates may be selected for employment without the normal merit system competitive process from a list of all Certified Disabled Veterans who have expressed interest in the position.

  • When you click on any of the buttons for the categories above, the system takes you to the alphabetical list of classes.
  • When you select a class, there is a link at the top of the page that says "If you are submitting an application associated with a Layoff/Reinstate/Transfer/Disabled Veteran, click here." The link goes directly to the application. Applications that are received through this process are assigned an alphabetic character that identifies the category selected.
