POSITION DUTIES
Duties include but are
not limited to:
Database
Administration
- Maintain, monitor, and optimize performance for databases and servers;
- Monitor capacity and allocate space;
- Perform database backup and restore;
- Diagnose and resolve data quality issues;
- Diagnose and resolve data access issues;
- Diagnose, and resolve database software issues;
- Maintain SQL Server engines by applying periodic updates and patches;
- Optimize stored procedures and queries;
- Maintain and enforce database permissions and security;
- Maintain rest servers and SQL instances as needed for development purposes;
- Create views, procedures, and functions as needed;
- Setup, configure, and maintain data encryption;
- Work with application developers to implement required changes;
- Assist Oracle data systems staff;
- Performs other duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Two years of experience, designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and controlling database management systems for computers and, testing, implementing and maintaining applications systems and programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or maintaining and modifying operating systems for computers.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology-related field to include course work in database management systems for the of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications systems and programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or maintaining and modifying operating systems for computers.
2. Candidates may substitute two years experience operating computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining a tape library to process data on computer systems; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages on a year-for-year basis for graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology related field to include course work in database management systems for two years experience designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and controlling database management systems for computers for the required experience.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Database Administration classifications or Database Administration specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference
will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualifications.

- 3+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in a production environment
- Possession of Microsoft Certified: SQL Server Database Administrator certification (e.g. MCSA or MCSE certification)
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
In accordance with
Section 2-204(b)(6) of the Public Safety Article, candidates for position in
this classification may be subject to an initial drug screening and a complete
criminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination before
permanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for
rejection of the candidate.
SELECTION PROCESS
Only candidates who meet
the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification.
Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information
on your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the Eligible List
categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remain
eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination.
The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees. The list will
be valid for one year.
EXAMINATION PROCESS
The examination will
consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the
requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement,
or the rating may be based on your application. Report all experience and
education that is related to this position.
