POSITION DUTIES

The Comptroller of Maryland's Information Technology Division Directs seeks to hire a Mainframe communications expert for all Annapolis Data Center database operations. This position is a hands on technician coordinating all Mainframe communications activity. The Annapolis Data Center hosts mainframe applications for 60+ agencies across the state of Maryland. Communication plays a key role in the day to day operation of these applications and will do so for decades to come regardless of  modernization efforts to move applications to distributed environments.  

This position is responsible for:

  • providing technical support with a high degree of customer satisfaction.  
  • meeting with upper-level management, vendors, users and other information technology administrators to discuss and resolve computer information systems issues.
  • performing risk assessment and impact analysis to reduce the likelihood of significant service outages.  
  • reviewing, evaluating and determining feasibility of requests for computer information system services
  • Utilizing skills in TCPIP, VTAMand CICS
  • Leading multiple infrastructure planning and implementations, including architecture design, backup and recovery strategy.
  • Installation/maintenance of View Direct, LRS and VPS. This includes working with IBM and other vendors to address product defects, issues, and usage
  • Prioritizing projects, developing work plans and deadlines, monitoring the progress of projects and approves completed projects for technical accuracy, completeness and adherence to established policies, procedures and standards.

PLEASE NOTE: ITD is responsible for the 24x7x365 support for ADC mainframe, distributed systems, and networks.  All ITD employees are available for on-call support.  As such, this position is required to occasionally work an off-hour schedule, weekdays prior to 7:30 a.m. and / or after 5:00 p.m., weekends, and holidays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

5 years of related Mainframe communications experience

TCPIP, VTAM and CICS Experience

View Direct, LRS and VPS Experience

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work with and mentor customers
  • Expert in performance tuning
  • Backup and recovery strategies and installation
  • Willingness to provide evening and weekend support as required
