POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to serve as the Regional Mental Health Supervisor for the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) in the Jessup region.  As such the incumbent is responsible for directing coordinating and integrating psychology services within each correctional institution located within the region. This includes the regional Correctional Mental Health Unit (if applicable) located in the region. This involves program development, diagnostic assessment, clinical consultation, and audit functions. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for administrative supervision as well as clinical supervision of the psychologists in the region.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

  • Direct and coordinate all psychology activities of the mental health program within the DPSCS region.
  • Collect and review institutional monthly statistical reports to determine the status of the region’s mental health program activities.  This includes: ensuring that the reports are timely; assessing workload of each clinician; ensuring the accurateness of the information provided; and ensuring that the duties required of each clinician are being performed satisfactorily. 
  • Oversees peer reviews and/or audits of performance of mental health personnel within the region.  
  • Consults with other program directors and managers or officials of agencies outside the Department on policies, plans, goals of the mental health program, and needs of the inmate population.
  • Reports directly to the Deputy Director of Mental Health for DPSCS.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides direct supervision to all psychology associates where necessary in the region. Provides administrative supervision and clinical consultation to all other independently licensed mental health professionals in the assigned region. This includes resolving conflicts with regional mental health personnel when and where necessary; and ensuring adequate mental health clinical coverage in the region. 
  • Recommend appropriate personnel actions to the Director and Deputy Director of Mental Health regarding regional psychology staff.
  • Liaise with institutional personnel offices in ensuring that: all efforts are being made to fill vacant psychology positions within the region; all Performance Evaluations Plans for regional psychology staff are timely and adequately completed; all position descriptions adequately reflect the duties for positions in the region’s institutions.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains a caseload of mental health patients for whom evaluation, risk assessment, and treatment are provided.  
  • Resolves any complex diagnostic questions arising within the region.
  • Provides advice on ethical issues within Mental Health Treatment Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications to be considered and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. 

Education: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D, Psy.D) in Psychology

Experience: One year of experience working within a correctional mental health department.
