Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Office of Communications and Marketing. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

Please note, this position is a Special Appointment position which serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for developing and disseminating external and internal communications that inform and educated the people of Maryland, Department employees, and other federal, State, local and municipal agencies regarding Natural Resources Police related activities and programs, and other duties as assigned by the Office of Communications.

POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Natural Resources, Office of Communications, located at the Tawes State Office Building, Annapolis, Maryland, is currently accepting applications for Administrator II, with the working title of Natural Resource Police PIO. This position acts as a spokesperson for the department by responding to media inquiries. Employees in this classification will prepare news releases, write speeches and prepare briefing material. This position reports to the Communications Director and takes direction from other staff in the office.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for- year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with a police or emergency services agency
  • Proficient in Spanish or other foreign languages
  • Experience running social media accounts
  • Proficient in writing

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
