Main Purpose of Job
This is a full time, 10-week, summer internship position in the Human Resources Office at the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) in Annapolis, MD. The student will create and administer a Training Needs Survey for supervisory training. Based upon the results of the survey, the position will begin to develop a Supervisor's Training course for the MDA. The intern supervisor is available to coordinate the internship with a university in order to design the course so it is sufficient for college credit. Part-time telework is available. Internship start date TBD in May or June 2023, depending on the student's and supervisor's schedules.
POSITION DUTIES
Conducts focus groups with subject matter experts to obtain input on critical knowledge, skills and abilities for successful supervisory performance.
Develops a Training Needs Survey to collect data about supervisory training needs.
Administers the survey and analyzes the data to identify recommended components for supervisory training.
Writes a report to summarize the results of the survey, including a training plan.
Begins to develop supervisory training, in particular around critical soft skills identified by the research.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Successful candidates will be currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program with a major in Training and Development, Human Resources, Industrial/Organizational Psychology or a related discipline, including successful completion of coursework in Employee Surveying and Data Collection.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Successful completion of coursework in Training & Development.
Experience in training needs assessment and in training development.
