Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating improvement activities related to safety, security, and emergency management. This position chairs the Emergency Management and Workplace Violence Committees and is responsible for the management and oversight of Deer’s Head’s compliance with federal, state, local and other regulatory requirements and standards particularly those related to the Environment Of Care, Emergency Management and Life Safety chapters of the Joint Commission. Additionally, this position ensures compliance with safety requirements of the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services, the MDH Health Office of Healthcare Quality, and the Commission on Kidney Disease.

Per the Amended Directive and Order Regarding Vaccination (MDH # 2023.04.18.03) issued by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health, effective April 18, 2023, staff in all hospitals and residential facilities operated by the Maryland Department of Health or any local health department are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Staff includes, but is not limited to, regular and contractual employees, contractual staff, volunteers, and other state employees performing any duties at the facility. An individual may request an accommodation by providing appropriate and sufficient documentation for bona fide medical or religious reasons.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling, or a related field.  

Experience: Six years professional experience in health services, three years must have been in Health Services professional clinical or administrative services in areas other than Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities or Addictions and two years must have been at the managerial or supervisory level.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree or a Doctorate degree in a health or human services field from an accredited college or university for up to two years of the required general experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus an additional year of professional experience in health services for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Health Services Administration specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Experience with data collection and reporting
  • Experience and/or knowledge of healthcare regulatory requirements related to the Environment of Care, Emergency Management and/or Life Safety
