Introduction

The Maryland Historical Trust (MHT), an agency of the Maryland Department of Planning, is seeking to hire a full time Outreach Coordinator for the Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (JPPM). Located on 560 scenic acres along the Patuxent River in Calvert County, Maryland, JPPM is home to over 65 archaeological sites, more than 30 historic buildings and structures, and the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory. JPPM supports the preservation of Maryland's cultural resources and connects people to the past through the preservation and interpretation of our onsite historical and archaeological resources.

Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Historical Trust (MHT), an agency of the Maryland Department of Planning, is seeking to hire a full time Outreach Coordinator for the Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (JPPM). Located on 560 scenic acres along the Patuxent River in Calvert County, Maryland, JPPM is home to over 65 archaeological sites, more than 30 historic buildings and structures, and the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory. JPPM supports the preservation of Maryland's cultural resources and connects people to the past through the preservation and interpretation of our onsite historical and archaeological resources.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Enhance JPPM’s online presence by developing and managing JPPM’s social media accounts. This includes working with JPPM staff including the Education Department, Horticulture, MAC Lab, and Marketing and Events Manager to develop and post interpretive content and notify the public of all events and programs through social media outlets.
  • Work with the JPPM staff in coordination with the Marketing and Events manager to help promote JPPM’s activities, programs, and brand; this could include printing and distributing flyers, signs, and promotional materials to the public and appropriate on-site locations.
  • Assist with editing and maintaining the JPPM website and calendar of events.
  • Assist with JPPM events and programming.
  • Develop and maintain a volunteer program at JPPM including recruiting volunteers; developing site-wide volunteer policies, procedures, and standards for volunteer service; managing volunteer orientation and recognition; scheduling all-volunteer communications and events; scheduling volunteers for specific site-wide events and programs; and conducting other administrative tasks to keep track of volunteer time and activities.
  • Collaborate with other JPPM staff that oversee volunteers to ensure those staff have the appropriate department, program, and operations-specific training, policies, and procedures in place.
  • Coordinate offsite outreach activities to promote and support JPPM’s activities.
  • Work with JPPM staff in coordination with the Marketing and Events manager to analyze the success and impact of educational and outreach programming and conduct appropriate surveys as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


Familiarity with web page design and publishing. 
 
Experience interpreting social media metrics 

Experience developing and managing a volunteer program.
   
Experience using various data sources to analyze the success and impact of educational and outreach programming.

Experience conducting public satisfaction surveys and using that data to inform program revision and development.


LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service needs to be provided before hire.
