Introduction

Maryland Public Television, commonly known as MPT, is a public television network that broadcasts throughout the entire state of Maryland and the District of Columbia and into parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is Maryland's only statewide broadcaster. Headquartered in Owings Mills, MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and is a producer of both locally and nationally distributed TV programs and digital content.

Main Purpose of Job

The MPT Scheduler/Production Technician II will function as the System Administrator for the Production Services scheduling system. Provide appropriate facility usage reports. Coordinate/schedule the utilization of MPT facilities including all production staff, studios, equipment and freelance pool. Provide support as a production technician to include operating teleprompter, floor director, camera operator, multi camera robotic director, grip and other studio related duties.

This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

Maintain Production Services scheduling system. Ensure 100% redundancy of system administrator functions. Provide appropriate facility usage reports. Coordination/scheduling and utilization of MPT facilities including all production staff, studios, equipment and freelance pool.

Function as a director/technical director primarily for streaming programming.

Studio/location production crew: Studio/location production personnel operate as part of a television production crew.

Provide support as floor director, camera operator, production assistant, robotic camera operator or teleprompter operator. On location, the crew member will perform the same functions with portable television production equipment.

Set / light-assembly and placement of set hanging and focusing of lights in a safe and timely manner to allow successful completion of the production.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. 

Experience:  Two (2) years of experience in the field of television production. Performing duties as part of a production team to include the scheduling of resources, camera operation, multi camera robotic director, grip and other studio related duties.

Note:

Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency and six (6) years of the experience for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications. 

Multi-camera directing experience (in the studio and on location). 

Experience with production Services scheduling systems and reporting. 

Experience coordinating/scheduling of production staff, studios, equipment and/ or freelance pool. 

Experience as a camera operator, production assistant, robotic camera operator or teleprompter operator. 

Experience with operating studio and location video cameras and video switching equipment for television productions. 

Ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of video production. 

Ability to use and maintain a variety of video and audio equipment.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are required to provide a copy of a demo reel or link for a demo reel, if selected for an interview.

This position may require a flexible work schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays. 

This position may require working outside in unfavorable or harsh weather conditions that might include exposure to the sun, wind, water, etc. 

This position may include long periods of walking, standing, climbing, and maneuvering in and around tight spaces. 

The selected candidate will be required to lift equipment in excess of 50 pounds.

The selected candidate may be required to climb ladders and use motorized lifts in order to operate and install in-studio lights.
