Introduction
Maryland Public
Television, commonly known as MPT, is a public television network that
broadcasts throughout the entire state of Maryland and the District of Columbia
and into parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is
Maryland's only statewide broadcaster. Headquartered in Owings Mills, MPT is a
member of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and is a producer of both
locally and nationally distributed TV programs and digital content.

Main Purpose of Job
The MPT Facilities Trainee learns to perform
duties to maintain the safe and efficient operation of HVAC, Electrical and
plumbing systems. The position will maintain the facility's physical appearance
and grounds. The position assists with moving furniture, general and small
equipment repairs and other general maintenance duties.
This
is a Special Appointment position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing
Authority.
POSITION DUTIES
The MPT Facilities Trainee will learn to:
Maintain the facilities, plumbing, steam pipes and
fittings and makes minor repairs to fixtures.
Check and maintain all sewer lines, cleans traps and changes
filters.
Support the facilities staff on special projects.
Maintain and monitor the HVAC system.
Maintain inventory of plumbing supplies and any necessary
plumbing equipment or supplies needed to keep the facilities operating.
Work with the Facilities staff on snow/ice removal.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a high school diploma or high
school equivalence certificate.
Experience: None
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the
following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific

Possession of a degree from an accredited
vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a
related field.
Vocational certificate or possession of an applicable
certification.
Experience with the skilled maintenance trades
(i.e., electrical, plumbing, refrigeration or
air-conditioning).
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this
classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor
vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor
vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
This position may require a flexible work
schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
This position may require working outside in
unfavorable or harsh weather conditions that might include exposure to the sun,
wind, water, etc.
This position may include long periods of
walking, standing, climbing, and maneuvering in and around tight spaces.
The selected candidate will be required to lift
equipment in excess of 50 pounds.
