Main Purpose of Job

A T/E position is a 6-month assignment only.  The main purpose of this temporary position is the responsibility of assuring that all licenses and certificate holders comply with the criminal history records check and that no person is licensed without a review of the criminal history through the State and FBI System. Approximately 330, 000 licenses and certificate holders will be reviewed annually.

Other duties are, but not limited to:
--Matching all positive FBI and State results of an applicant for initial or renewal license of certificate. Determining what additional documentation (i.e. court documents, evidence of fines paid, time served, and probation completed, etc.) is required for review of positive criminal history records by Board review committee, and requesting information from applicants or other sources  
--Printing, alphabetizing, collating and independently reviewing and documenting all results of criminal history records checks and processing the applications in on or three ways: (1) no criminal history: (2) positive criminal- process for CHRC Director review: or (3) positive criminal history that rises to the level of a clear and imminent danger to public safety and requires immediate investigation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:   Three years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

The desired candidate should possess:
--Experience completing background checks
--Experience working directly with the public 
--Excellent customer service 
--Excellent communication skills both oral and written

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates may be responsible for providing their own transportation as needed to access meetings, remote locations, and job destinations as assigned.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants who meet the minimum (and selective) qualifications will be included in further evaluation. The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Please report all related education, experience, dates and hours of work. Clearly indicate your college degree and major on your application, if applicable. For education obtained outside the U.S., any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing an evaluation for equivalency by a foreign credential evaluation service prior to starting employment (and may be requested prior to interview).

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.

BENEFITS

Temporary employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a temporary employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a temporary employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
