Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide speech therapy assessment and treatment. This position will also make clinical recommendations to referred patients in the hospital with special responsibility to the Adolescent Unit and Special Care Units. Assessment/treatment areas include administration of speech and language diagnostic evaluations, conducting treatment for individuals with communication deficits, conducting the evaluation of unusual or exceptional cases particularly individuals with neurodevelopmental disorder, preparing and maintaining necessary records and reports of language and speech evaluations, treatment results and prognoses. Services offered include assessment, development and implementation of treatment plans for individuals with communication, cognitive or swallowing disorders and the appropriate revision of treatment necessary. This position works at the full performance level of a Speech Pathologist as provided by a licensed Speech Language Pathologist professional and performs these licensed duties under the general supervision of a higher licensed clinician or Rehab Services manager. This position is emergency essential and is required to have and maintain a valid Maryland Driver's License and be able to drive a state vehicle in accordance with the State of Maryland Policies and Procedures for drivers of State Vehicles.

NOTICE: Federal COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement for Certain Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Employees. Per the emergency regulation issued by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) (86 FR 61555), and as permitted to go into effect by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 13, 2022, all staff at the Maryland Department of Health’s CMS certified health care facilities are required to receive either a first or single COVID-19 dose and provide proof of vaccination status by January 29. 2022. If selected for this position, candidates will be required to provide proof of vaccination or have an approved religious or medical exemption prior to appointment.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Set by the licensing requirements of the Maryland State Board of Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers & Speech-Language Pathologists.

Experience: Three years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist or Audiologist.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Speech Pathologist and Audiologist classification or Speech Pathologist or Audiologist specialty codes in the Speech Pathology and Audiology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Experience providing speech therapy to the adolescent population with mental health related diagnoses
  • Knowledge/experience with providing skilled speech therapy to improve language and communication skills in individuals diagnosed with mental health illness

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license from the Maryland State Board of Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers & Speech-Language Pathologists, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2. Employees in this classification must renew their license in accordance with Health Occupations Article, Title 2 Audiology, or Title 19 Speech-Language Pathology of the Annotated Code of Maryland.

3. Employees in this classification are required to possess a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology or Audiology.  A copy of the current certificate must accompany the application form.
