Introduction

The Maryland Lottery is an agency of the Maryland government. Its games include Mega Millions, Powerball, Multi-Match, Keno, Bonus Match 5, and numerous scratch tickets. The Maryland Lottery is headquartered in Suite 330 at 1800 Washington Boulevard, in Montgomery Business Park.

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to serve as a Lottery Security Specialist ensuring the security and integrity of all Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency operations, policies, and procedures.


Assist the Lottery Security Supervisor in the development of regulations to ensure the security of lottery documents and equipment.

Conduct investigations initiated by the Director or Assistant Director and Security Supervisor in order to detect conditions detrimental to Lottery operations 

Investigates complaints from the public arising from sales or claims. 

Cooperates with law enforcement and other organizations in order to gather information. 

Visits lottery agents to collect materials due the Maryland State Lottery. 

May present testimony regarding investigations to the Lottery Commission or in court Write reports of investigations. 

Oversee Lottery Drawings and promotional events to ensure the integrity of these events and draw.

Must prepare investigative reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Two years’ experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education. 2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience. 3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


Law enforcement experience with a federal, state or local agency

Military experience as Military Police or within a Criminal Investigation Division       

Experience conducting criminal investigations or undercover investigations 

Experience investigating illegal gambling operations

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in the classification are considered essential personnel and in the event of a declared emergency, you must report to your assigned location. Employees are subject to 24 hour call, 24 hours a day and, therefore, must have ready access to a telephone. Employees are subject to travel outside of the U.S. which requires a passport.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
