Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to support the continuing operation of the Maryland Correctional Enterprises (MCE) Services Information Technology Systems providing on-site technical services. Assist with special projects, including the installation, configuration and upgrade of hardware and software, hardware problems making necessary adjustments. This position will be tasked with investing and finding IT related contraband.

POSITION DUTIES

Responds to Help Desk calls by asking users diagnostic questions to determine computer system or printer problems. 

Evaluates personal computer hardware and software to provide solutions to user needs. May install and troubleshoot personal computer hardware and software. 

Maintains records of inventory, local area network lines, users’ accounts or security information including violation. 

Act as security representative to administer security issues related to MCE computers and local area networks. 

Assist/trains MCE users in accessing the computer by providing detailed instructions as contained in equipment manuals, systems manuals, application manuals, user guides and other written guidelines. 

Researches and downloads tutorials and disseminate to MCE employees. 

Maintains records of Help Desk calls including user identification, nature of problems, resolutions and response times and system downtime. 

Handles all print Queue’s printing and distributing reports for A/P, A/R, Inventory, Customer Service, and Purchasing. Printing and distributing special request reports. 

Performs other related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. 

Experience: One year of experience evaluating, implementing and maintaining personal computer hardware and software. 

Note: 

1.  Experience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of computers, or operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, data base or other applications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. 

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Cyber and Information Systems classifications or Cyber and Information Systems specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.

Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
