LOCATION OF POSITION
MDH/Caroline County Health Department, Mid-Shore WIC Program, Denton, Maryland
Main Purpose of Job
This position will be responsible for the research, planning and implementation of the nutrition and breastfeeding education plans, according to state policy and procedure. This position will assure that these plans are presented to participants through individual contacts. This position will also provide specialized nutrition care to participants who are at a nutrition risk. Such care involves providing diet therapy counseling prepared for individuals, with the preparation of care plans and follow up.
Finally, this position will train and educate the WIC paraprofessionals with agency in-services and through the use of competency check lists, in order to assure that staff members are following policy and procedure, as well as correctly administrating paraprofessional duties. This position will keep staff members up to date on dietary information through in-services.
Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice, under the licensing requirements for Nutritionists and Dietitians.
Experience: One year of experience providing professional nutrition or dietetic services.
1. A Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Community Health or Nutrition may be substituted for the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a Commissioned Officer in Dietitian and Nutritionist classification or Dietitian and Nutritionist specialty codes in the Dietitian field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The desired candidate should have professional experience with the Maryland WIC program, preferably experience providing nutrition counseling to high-risk WIC participants. He/she should also have experience determining eligibility for the WIC program, as well as experience developing, implementing and evaluating educational nutrition materials.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Dietitian/Nutritionist from the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215, prior to permanent appointment.
2. Employees in the classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
