Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Finance and Administrative Services. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Finance and Administrative Services, is currently accepting applications for an Accountant Supervisor I.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • supervises staff responsible for all data input into R*STARS and the federal time card system
  • provides fiscal oversight to ensure that all financial entries generated are done in compliance with State fiscal policy and COMAR regulations and guidelines
  • updates the R*STARS chart of accounts as needed
  • supervises staff responsible for preparing the monthly clearing account reconciliations
  • reviews and provides final approval on all accounts payable transmittals

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

For education obtained outside of the United States (U.S.), you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the U.S., please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.html with the application.

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing.

Experience: Four years of experience examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with thirty credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing for the required education.

2. Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.

3. Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a Master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

4. Applicants may substitute one year of professional auditing experience for one year of accounting experience.

5. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Accounting Officer classification or Financial Management specialty codes in the Accounting field of work on a year for year basis for the required experience and education. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following.  Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualification(s).

Experience with the Statewide Accounting System, R*STARS is preferred.

Three years of experience in general ledger accounting is preferred.
