Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to the Division Director for the Advanced Practice Department with the Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON). This position relieves the administration of the department from the operational details that requires frequent and routine use of independent judgment and analysis in interpreting and applying complex policies/ procedures. This position will also serve as the coordinator responsible for certifying, reviewing and monitoring the certification process for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) and the specialty certifications regulated by the Maryland Board of Nursing. This position is responsible for the planning, coordinating, and Supervising of the certification process of APRN population and the four specialty certifications by assuring that the more than 6,500 advanced practice nurses meet applicable standards of the MBON and certifying entities are compliant with the Nurse Practice Act( NPA) and regulations; evaluation of APRN education programs, and development of policy for APRNs, assisting the division director. This position is responsible for the overall compliance of all advanced practice registered nurses (nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and clinical nurse specialists) with certification requirements in accordance with established regulations and statutes utilizing Informational Technology (IT) systems. Lastly, this position is also responsible for the administration and certification of the two registered nurse expanded roles (Worker's Compensation Case Manager and Forensic Nurse Examiners), Electrologists and Direct Entry Midwives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
Experience: One (I) year experience in administrative or professional work.

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate should have experience with a regulatory board. The preferred candidate should have experience with the licensure, certification, and credentialing of healthcare professionals. It is also preferred that this candidate be able to conduct audits of licensing credentials and demonstrate excellent customer service and effective communication skills.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS
The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
