Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Park Service is currently accepting applications for an Administrative Specialist I in the headquarters office in Annapolis, Maryland (Anne Arundel County). This position serves as the unit's statewide inventory coordinator for capital and sensitive inventory. This position is also responsible for purchasing and maintaining supplies and materials for park staff in the Annapolis office, and purchasing supplies in bulk orders for field staff. Duties include but are not limited to: adding inventory items to the state database; processing transfers of equipment to other state parks or other DNR agencies; processing disposals of equipment for trade-in or auction following state policies; reporting of missing or stolen inventory; maintaining accurate files and records of equipment awards, transfers and disposals; and assisting park staff with annual lost and found inventory.

This position is also responsible for acting as the unit's fleet coordinator, assists with the deposit of funds for parking citations, and may assist with the fulfillment of online sales of park passports and trail guides. This position makes recommendations concerning inventory needs and priorities and responds to inquiries from the public as well as park staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.

Experience: None.

Notes:  

1. Candidates may substitute one year of experience in administrative or professional work for the required education, at the rate of one year of experience for 30 credit hours, for up to 60 credit hours of the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies  on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following.  Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualification(s).

• Experience using the following office hardware/equipment: printers, personal computer, and copier.

• Experience using the following computer software: Word, Excel, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive.

• Experience dealing with customers/public in the following manners: telephone, e-mail, written correspondence, face to face contact.    

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
