NATURE OF WORK

A Public Health Dental Program Administrator directs a statewide program promoting preventive dental health and oral health programs and services.  Employees in this classification develops and implements policies, procedures and standards for preventive dental health initiatives and programs and the expansion of existing oral health programs and services.

Employees in this classification receive managerial supervision from a designated higher-level official.

Positions in this classification are evaluated by using the classification job evaluation methodology.  The use of this method involves comparing the assigned duties and responsibilities of a position to the job criteria found in the Nature of Work and Examples of Work sections of the class specification.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Develops policies, procedures, standards and guidelines for preventive dental health and oral health programs and services;

Develops protocols such as evidence-based preventive and treatment methodologies for tooth decay, oral cancer and other oral diseases;

Provides consultation to staff in local health departments, professional organizations and consumers with regard to preventive dental health and oral health programs and services;

Evaluates the effectiveness of preventive dental health and oral health programs and services;

Promotes the understanding and acceptance of preventive dental health measures and of best practices in dental health education to local health department staff, professional groups and the public;

Partners with academic, professional and community based providers to advance dental and oral health program initiatives;

Performs other related duties.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Specific educational and experience requirements are set by the agency based on the essential job functions assigned to the position.

Note: Applicants for the classification must be currently licensed as a Dentist with the Maryland Board of Dental Examiners. A photocopy of the license must be attached to the application.
