NATURE OF WORK

A Police Officer Manager is one of two managerial levels of law enforcement work at a State facility.  Employees in this classification directly supervise Police Officer Supervisors and through them indirectly supervise lower-level Police Officers and other security personnel.

Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a Police Chief II.  Employees may be assigned to day, evening, night or rotating shifts which may include holidays and weekends.  They may be subject to call-in and overtime based on staffing needs.

Positions in this classification are evaluated by using the classification job evaluation methodology.  The use of this method involves comparing the assigned duties and responsibilities of a position to the job criteria found in the Nature of Work and Examples of Work sections of the class specification.

The Police Officer Manager is differentiated from the Police Officer Supervisor in that the Police Officer Manager has supervisory responsibility for Police Officer Supervisors and manages all security operations on an assigned shift while the Police Officer Supervisor has supervisory responsibility for lower-level Police Officers.  The Police Officer Manager is differentiated from Police Chief I and Police Chief II in that Police Chiefs have total responsibility and accountability for the law enforcement operations of a police force.
