NATURE OF WORK

A Supply Officer I is the full performance level of storekeeping work having responsibility for the management and operation of a storage facility or for assisting in the management of a storeroom or supply storage facility of a State institution or department.  Employees in this classification do not supervise other Supply Officers, but may supervise Stock Clerks or patients performing storekeeping or related duties.

Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a higher-level Supply Officer, supplies and Services Supervisor or other designated administrator.  Employees in this classification may work shifts, which include weekends and holidays.  The work generally requires the lifting and moving of equipment, materials and supplies weighing ten or more pounds.

Positions in the Supply Officer series are evaluated by using the Supply Officers’ Point Factor Job Evaluation Method.  The job evaluation factors are: (I.) Volume and (II.) Administrative Responsibilities.  The point range requirement for the Supply Officer I is 275-399.  The point range requirement for the Supply Officer II is 400-574.  The point range requirement for the Supply Officer III is 575-799.  The point range requirement for the Supply Officer IV is 800 or more. 

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Develops storage methods, including the allocation and arrangement of storage facilities;

Receives, stores and issues equipment, materials and supplies;

Maintains or oversees maintenance of records related to the receipt, issue, and control of supplies;

Conducts physical inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment;

Prepares requisitions for stock replacement;

Makes authorized purchases;

Receives, approves and processes store requisitions and oversees the distribution of supplies;

Assists in the preparation of specifications and contacts vendors concerning supply purchases;

May supervise lower-level supply personnel performing storekeeping functions;

May lift supplies, materials and equipment weighing ten or more pounds;

May serve as an assistant to a higher-level Supply Officer in a large operation where the storekeeping functions are more complex;

May have direct responsibility in a large operation for a phase or area of the storage operation;

Performs other related duties.  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of storekeeping methods and procedures;

Knowledge of the maintenance of stock records and inventory controls;

Knowledge of purchases and requisition procedures;

Knowledge of the methods involved in receiving, storing and issuing supplies;

Ability to determine quantity and quality of goods in relation to purchase orders and requisitions;

Ability to maintain perpetual inventory records;

Ability to develop and install procedures and record keeping systems;

Ability to guide and direct lower-level supply and storage workers or others performing storekeeping duties;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and others;

Ability to lift equipment, materials and supplies weighing ten or more pounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience in receiving, storing, and issuing supplies, materials, or equipment in a storeroom, warehouse, or other supply storage facility.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience as described above on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in logistics specialist classifications or administrative support specialty codes in the logistics or unit supply field of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
