Responsibilities

The Recreation Facility Supervisor is responsible for managing the daily operations of a City recreation/sports facility, including staff supervision, program implementation, facility maintenance, and customer service. This multi-incumbent position supports safe, efficient, and innovative recreational services for the public and may be assigned to any functional area within the department. This role oversees facility scheduling, opening/closing procedures, and advertisement of recreational programs and special events. Supervises and assists with classes, workshops, and daily activities; ensures policies for room reservations, participation tracking, equipment use, and facility upkeep are followed. The incumbent is accountable for all record keeping and reporting of daily revenues, program revenues and incident/accident reports and assists with budget development. Coordinates with the department of Public Works to ensure the upkeep and maintenance of the grounds, equipment and parking lots of their assigned facility.  Adheres to all safety protocols and applies certified emergency response skills (e.g., CPR, First Aid) when required.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree or higher in Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Sports Management, Leisure Services, Business Administration, Communications or a related field AND one year of full-time paid supervisory/leadership experience.

OR

High School diploma (or G.E.D.) AND 6 years of full-time or 7 years of part-time (part-time defined as having worked on average 35 hours/week) paid supervisory/leadership experience in recreation, sports or leisure time activities.

Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region. 

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license, at time of appointment, and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Special Requirements

Must obtain a valid First Aid and Adult/Child Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) with Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification within 150 days of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
Incumbents assigned to the division of Recreation Youth Services must also obtain and maintain a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) within 12 months of appointment.

Background Check 
A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position. 

Medical Examination & Drug and Nicotine Testing 
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
