The Residential Construction Specialist reviews plans and specifications for residential construction, renovations, repairs, demolitions, and mechanical system installations to ensure compliance with building, HVAC, plumbing, and zoning codes. Reporting to the Chief Plans Examiner, this role involves working closely with homeowners, contractors, and residents to provide technical guidance, encourage code-compliant construction, and deliver high-quality service. The position requires reviewing architectural plans, exercising independent judgment, and using technical expertise to assess code compliance and offer corrective recommendations when necessary. Projects range from single-family homes to small commercial buildings, with the goal of protecting public health, safety, and welfare.
Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Background Check
A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.

Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen.
