Responsibilities
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent (AGS) assists in directing and participating in the maintenance and construction of golf course
grounds, buildings, and equipment. The incumbent oversees the ongoing daily work activities of golf course full time and seasonal employees in an efficient and safe manner, and in line with the goals and guidelines established by the Division Manager of Sports and the Golf Course Superintendent. The AGS trains full-time and seasonal employees at the golf course in the safe operation and maintenance
of facilities and equipment. Oversees assigned personnel for specific work assignments and golf course improvements and inspects the work of employees to ensure the proper execution of job assignments. Repairs and maintains automatic irrigation systems. Assumes direct responsibility of managing golf courses in the absence of the Golf Course Superintendent.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Turf Management, Agronomy or closely related field
AND 2 years of
experience in golf course maintenance or golf course construction experience. One (1) of the two (2) years must
have been in a supervisory capacity;
OR
Associate’s Degree in Turf Management, Agronomy or closely related field AND 4 years of experience in golf
course maintenance or golf course construction experience. One (1) of the four (4) years must have been in a
supervisory capacity.
License Requirements
Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
Special Requirements
Must obtain an Ohio Department of Agriculture Public Operations Pesticide License for turf and ornamental categories within 6 months of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Background Check
A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.
Medical Examination & Drug and Nicotine Testing
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
