Wastewater Treatment Maintenance Supervisor

Responsibilities

This incumbent supervises 4 - 25 employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. The incumbent must maintain a thorough knowledge of administrative policies and procedures, and standard operating guidelines and procedures. 

The incumbent is to prioritize, distribute and complete maintenance repairs necessary for the continuous operation of mechanical and hydraulic systems for compliance with the OEPA National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit. Must be knowledgeable of wastewater treatment processes and ensure that all mechanical systems are operating at the highest efficiency possible. In cooperation with the Operations staff, the incumbent supervises and physically assists maintenance personnel in the completion of a multitude of maintenance and cleaning activities on Wastewater Treatment Plant equipment, buildings, vehicles and grounds. Incumbents also work with the Electrical Supervisor or Electrical Engineer to arrange for troubleshooting and repair of electrical components throughout the plant and the maintenance of the computer monitoring system (CMS). Ensures a Reliability Based Maintenance Program is achieved through computerized programs, record keeping and reports.

Minimum Qualifications

Must meet one of the following:

1.  Associate's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Construction Management or another closely related field AND 4 years of experience in maintenance and repair of water or wastewater equipment; OR

2.  Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.) AND 8 years of experience in maintenance and repair of water or wastewater equipment; OR 

3.  Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.) AND 4 years of experience as a Wastewater Treatment Maintenance Mechanic or Maintenance Mechanic II with the City of Dayton.

Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.
 

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain until such time as a Commercial Driver's License is obtained.

Within 120 days of appointment must obtain and maintain a valid Ohio Class B Commercial Driver's License (C.D.L.), including the qualification to operate a vehicle with air brakes and any other endorsements required by the State of Ohio.  Out of state residents must have equivalent licenses from their state of residence within the prescribed 120 days of appointment.

Special Requirements

Must obtain an OEPA Wastewater Treatment Class II Operator certification within 36 months of appointment, and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Background Check 
A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position. 

Medical Examination & Drug and Nicotine Testing 
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
