Introduction

Responsibilities

Supervises maintenance and operational functions to optimize the performance of an advanced water reclamation facility on a continuous basis. The incumbent ensures efficient performance of a wide variety of functions including, but not limited to, troubleshooting and repair and record keeping on operations and equipment use. Maintains inventory of parts/supplies and assures that all plant equipment are maintained; assists in the development of equipment specifications, material requirements, and cost estimates. The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations Supervisor must utilize a computer-based SCADA to monitor and control plant processes, which requires a knowledge of all plant equipment. The incumbent also coordinates operations, maintenance and safety needs on a daily basis, ensures work orders are executed, assists in prioritizing work orders and follows up on all maintenance work repairs. The incumbent has primary responsibility for the maintenance of the treatment facilities on a 24 hour, around the clock basis; serves as the backup/support to the other Treatment Plant Operations Supervisor and has considerable latitude in making maintenance and equipment adjustments, daily operating decisions, and employee assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

Must meet one of the following:

1.  Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Wastewater Technology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field AND 5 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater facility. Three of the five years must have been in a supervisory capacity;

OR

2.  Associate's degree in Engineering, Wastewater Technology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field AND 10 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater facility.  Five of the ten years must have been in a supervisory capacity;

OR

3.  Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.) AND 15 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment facility.  Eight of the fifteen years must have been in a supervisory capacity.

Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Special Requirements

Must possess a valid Ohio EPA Wastewater Operator Class III license at time of application.

Background Check 
A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position. 

Medical Examination & Drug and Nicotine Testing 
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
