Industrial Pretreatment Coordinator

Responsibilities

Monitors and controls industrial wastewater discharges through testing and enforcement of federal, state and municipal regulations. The incumbent conducts surveys, industrial plant inspections, discharge sampling, and reviews industrial self-monitoring reports. Determines compliance with pretreatment standards and/or for surcharge billing of extra-strength wastewater using analytic results. The incumbent must develop and apply a strong detailed working knowledge of environmental law, including, but not limited to: The Clean Water Act and subsequent regulations promulgated by the Federal and Ohio EPA and especially those regulating industrial activities and discharges. The Industrial Pretreatment Coordinator supervises a staff that includes Sewer System Surveillance Technicians.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, engineering or related field AND 5 years of experience in wastewater treatment.

Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region. 

Certifications

Class III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's license or ability to obtain a Class III license within 18 months from the date of appointment.

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Background Check 
A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position. 

Medical Examination & Drug and Nicotine Testing 
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
