Responsibilities

The HVAC Technician maintains the safe operating condition of the heating system and hot-water distribution systems in the facilities owned or operated by the district. The incumbent will inspect, troubleshoot, and repair heating and and air-conditioning components for the proper system operation of the facilities. In addition to monitoring the performance, they will develop operational and maintenance procedures appropriate for HVAC district systems, and may evaluate the installation and verify that work meets code and quality standards. The HVAC Technician will also implement a district-wide HVAC planned maintenance program and recommend the purchase of supplies and equipment for HVAC maintenance and repairs, and perform other such duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. AND five years of of experience in HVAC repair and maintenance.

License Requirements

Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

General Requirements

Must be skilled in the use of materials, equipment, tools and methods of the HVAC trade, and have knowledge of HVAC-related building codes and safety regulations. Must have the ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs; must be able to lift and maneuver materials up to fifty pounds regularly and in excess of one hundred pounds periodically.

Citizenship

Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S. at the time of application.

Background Investigation

Must pass State and Federal background checks, per Dayton Public Schools policy.

Military Credit

Open Competitive applicants who have had military service will receive an additional credit of 20% if a passing grade is attained. TO OBTAIN CREDIT, A NON-RETURNABLE COPY OF THE DD214 OR CERTIFICATE OF SERVICE (INDICATING HONORABLE DISCHARGE) MUST BE SUBMITTED AT TIME OF EXAMINATION.

Notes

In the event of identical exam scores, the tie will be broken in favor of the candidate who received military credit. If a tie score still exists, the tie will be broken by a random selection method.

Examination dates and times are subject to change. Calculators will be provided for the Civil Service examination. Final appointment may be contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination, drug screen and/or police background investigation and providing documentary evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity. Applicants are responsible for providing all necessary employment dates, experience, training, or any other requirements as stated in the Exam Announcement, in order for their application to be considered for certification and admittance to the examination process.
