This is skilled painting work involving the responsibility of performing a variety of painting tasks in accordance with standard practices of the trade. Incumbents perform skilled brush and spray painting of buildings, as well as mechanical maintenance and automotive equipment. Work is subject to review in process and upon completion by a technical supervisor.
Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.).
Must have one year of experience in limited skill painting work or completion of an approved training in the trade.
Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR DEPARTMENT OF AVIATION ONLY: Within 120 days of appointment, incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid Ohio Class B Commercial Driver's License, including the qualification to operate a vehicle with airbrakes, and any other endorsements required by the State of Ohio for a particular vehicle type, in accordance with Ohio State Law.
Incumbent must be able to:
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Perform duties at various heights in precarious places and under all weather conditions.
- Perform duties while frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Works with moving mechanical parts.
Must be a full-time permanent or part-time permanent employee in pay grade 118 (Wage) or below, pay grade 29 (Clerical) or below, or equivalent, and been employed for 6 consecutive months by the City of Dayton in a classified Civil Service position. Identical scores will be broken by (1) seniority and (2) random selection method.

Applicants appearing on the Promotional eligible list shall be considered for appointment prior to those on the Open Competitive list. A background investigation is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.
Special Requirement for Department of Aviation ONLY: Police and U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) fingerprint and background investigations are required to work at Dayton International Airport.
Drug and Nicotine Testing
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
