Water Laboratory Technician

Responsibilities

Collects water samples to determine the water quality and well efficiency of the well fields and related systems. Measures static well water levels; bails wells; collects samples and performs field analyses, sample preservation and sample bottle preparation. Interprets well logs and enters data into a computer. Performs calculations of weight, well volume, well depth and other forms of measurements. Installs, maintains, repairs and adjusts sample equipment. Works with lab personnel on customer service calls.

Minimum Qualifications

Education 
Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.). 

Experience 
Must have 2 years of experience in performing field analyses of water samples, and entering data into log books and computers.

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

General Requirements

Must be physically able to install, maintain and handle the necessary equipment to collect samples, bail wells, perform field analyses and perform the other duties of this position.

Must not be colorblind.

Examination dates and times are subject to change. Calculators will be provided for the Civil Service examination. Identical scores will be broken by a random selection method. Background Check 
A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position. 

Medical Examination & Drug and Nicotine Testing 
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
