THE ROLE: 
The Material Storage Specialist role is in the Asset Management Surplus unit. This position prepares and posts auctions of vehicles, equipment, and commodities that are obsolete or have reached the end of their useful life. The position also assists with conducting stockroom inventories and tagging, recording capital and controllable equipment information, transferring assets, processing inventory documents, and oversees the Agency's obsolescence of stockroom.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for stockroom or warehouse operations, including the full range of stores activities, such as receiving, storing, distributing, inspecting, inventorying, purchasing and all other related functions.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Core-CT Financials Inventory and Asset Management modules
  • Prepare and process auctions for the disposition of controllable and capital assets 
  • Process transfers and disposals from the Surplus Warehouse 
  • Daily use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Core-CT
  • Assists with tagging equipment, transferring assets, and processing inventory documents
  • Assists in conducting annual Stockroom inventories
  • Operate a forklift and other warehouse equipment 
  • Responsible for timesheet entry of hours worked
  • Responsible for communicating with internal and external customers
  • Performs related duties as required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Knowledge of
    • the methods of requisitioning, handling, storing and issuing of materials and supplies; 
    • safe and efficient warehousing practices including purchasing;

  • Ability to
    • keep accurate stock records and inventories; 
    • utilize computer software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of experience in stock or warehouse work or closely related work that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of the General Experience must have involved the full range of stores duties, including receiving, storing, issuing, inventorying, inspecting, etc.

NOTE: For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of a Storekeeper.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Core-CT, the Property Distribution Center (website), or other computerized purchasing and inventory management systems
  • Experience with asset management surplus policies and inventory control
  • Experience with safe and efficient warehousing practices, including purchasing, receiving, and managing surplus
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Ability to operate a Forklift
  • Oral and written communication skills

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.
  • Incumbents in this class must be willing to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice assignments, whenever their services are required.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess experience receiving and handling of specialized materials.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the class.
  • A physical examination may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights; 
  • May be exposed to weather conditions and may be required to handle hazardous materials/chemicals.
