                        ABOUT THE FACILITY:

                        Connecticut Valley Hospital provides trauma informed gender responsive treatment that empowers individuals to manage recovery, improve quality of life and return to the community.

                        UNIT DESCRIPTION:
                        The Addiction Services Division is a component of Connecticut Valley Hospital; a State of Connecticut non-profit facility operated by the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), which provides 24-hour inpatient services. The Addiction Services Division offers inpatient services located in Middletown and Hartford. Both campuses provide two levels of care:  Acute detoxification provides care for individuals who are experiencing acute withdrawal from substances. Intensive treatment is available for those who need structure and education in order to start their recovery process.

                        The Middletown Campus consists of one 20 bed acute detoxification unit, two 30-bed male rehabilitation units and one 30-bed female rehabilitation unit.  The Hartford Campus consists of one 21-bed acute detoxification unit and one 21-bed co-ed rehabilitation unit. Both campuses also provide screening services to determine the most appropriate level of care.

                        PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

                        In a state agency, facility or hospital this class is accountable for providing clinical social work services to a limited number of agency clients under the guidance of a licensed clinical social worker or other licensed clinical professional.

                        EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

                        Assesses regulatory compliance and conducts case reviews for quality & appropriate care to ensure proper documentation, service collection, and billing. Participates in quality improvement activities to evaluate and enhance health care processes, standards of care, and documentation. Audits medical records for compliance with Medicare & Medicaid regulations, Joint Commission standards, and CVH documentation requirements including but not limited to Targeted Case Management, Evaluation & Management, and psychotherapy. Provides clinical social work services to agency clients initially under close supervision; works more independently with acquired experience; participates as a member of a treatment team; participates in or develops psychosocial assessments through clinical interviews with assigned clients and families; develops treatment plans, prepares discharge summaries and provides individual, group and family therapy, under supervision; advocates for clients and develops resources to assist clients in meeting identified needs; completes all required documentation including progress notes, makes clinical observations of behavior of patients and/or clients; may diagnose behavioral health conditions in consultation with licensed behavioral health care professionals; provides case management services as needed; prepares assigned client research and reading activities; performs a greater number of specific and complex clinical social work duties and maintains a larger caseload as skills are acquired; performs related duties as required.

                        KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

                        Knowledge of social work methodology, casework, group work and community mobilization; knowledge of family and interpersonal relationship dynamics; knowledge of values, sanctions, purposes and ethics of professional social work; knowledge of social, cultural, economic, medical, psychological and legal issues which influence attitudes and behaviors of clients and families; knowledge of mental illnesses and substance use disorders and approaches to treatment; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to devise and implement an appropriate client treatment plan.

                        MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

                        Possess the credentials of a Licensed Master Social Worker in the state of Connecticut.

                        PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

                        • Experience with utilization review, utilization management and managed care principles.
                        • Experience with Medicare/Medicaid Regulatory Requirements.
                        • Experience working with Commercial/Private Insurance Authorizations.
                        • Experience in continuing care and transitions-of-care planning.
                        • Experience with health care insurances and regulations.
                        • Experience with medical-necessity determination.

                        SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

                        1. Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. § 1320a-7b(f). 
                        2. Incumbents in this class may be required to have knowledge of sign language and communication ability with the deaf and hearing impaired in certain designated positions.
                        3. Incumbents in this class may be required to have ability in Spanish oral and written communication in certain designated positions.
                        4. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
