    THE ROLE: 

    Incumbents in this class must be willing to accept assignment to emergency duties when required, including snow and ice removal. Mandatory winter overtime occurs November 1 through April 30 each year.

    This position is assigned to the Inventory Management Unit located in Darien. Incumbents will be responsible for performing a full range of various inventory management duties, both manual and clerical. Duties include receiving daily deliveries, issuing a variety of parts to repair and maintenance facilities, communicating with vendors, maintaining accurate inventory levels, purchasing, time entry, Class C operator for fuel station operations, and general housekeeping.

    POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:

    • First shift, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

    PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

    This class is accountable for independently performing a full range of various stores duties, both manual and clerical, such as receiving, storing, issuing, inspecting, inventorying, and the like; may be in charge of a small storeroom or be a specialist in a phase of total stores operation.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Receives and issues stock and maintains records of receipts, purchase orders, and stock orders
    • Verifies quantity and quality of incoming supplies against packing slips, invoices, and bills of lading
    • Maintains a clean facility and security of stockroom area
    • Performs required inventory of materials and supplies to ensure proper inventory levels and accurate counts of supplies on hand
    • Class C Operator – Responsible for daily fuel station operations, including weekly and monthly inspections, and ensures all state and federal regulations are maintained
    • Responsible for issuing supplies to repair and maintenance facilities
    • Responsible for purchasing with P-Card and monthly reconciliation of P-Card statement
    • Daily use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Core-CT
    • Responsible for timesheet entry of hours worked
    • Responsible for communicating daily with outside vendors for purchasing and checking on outstanding orders
    • Performs related duties as required

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

    Knowledge of the methods of requisitioning, handling, storing and issuing of materials and supplies; knowledge of safe and efficient warehousing practices including purchasing; some interpersonal skills; some oral and written communication skills; ability to keep accurate stock records and inventories; ability to utilize computer software.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

    Two (2) years of experience in stock or warehouse work or closely related work that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite 
    • Experience with heavy duty and automotive truck parts, tractor parts, and snowplow parts 
    • Experience with warehouse and inventory control best practices
    • Experience with operating a forklift
    • Experience with general housekeeping
    • Experience with fuel station operations

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.
    DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION: Incumbents in this class must be willing to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, whenever their services are required.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    1. Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.
    2. A physical examination may be required.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights; may be exposed to weather conditions and may be required to handle hazardous materials/chemicals.
