The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), Bureau of Materials Management and Compliance Assurance (MMCA) is seeking to hire multiple Seasonal Resource Assistants in Hartford, Connecticut to work in one or more of the  Bureau's three divisions, the Waste Engineering and Enforcement Division, the Emergency Response and Spill Prevention Division, and the Water Permitting and Enforcement Division.

POSITIONS AVAILABLE (See details under EXAMPLES OF DUTIES section)
As an Environmental Protection Seasonal Resource Assistant with MMCA you will assist with administrative tasks to include:
  • Responding to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests;
  • Scanning documents; 
  • Entering data; 
  • Reviewing records;
  • Filing.
Additionally, you may also have technical assignments including registration reviews, analytical data review, web content research, and records management.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
Schedule: The position hours are flexible, between Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, and shall not exceed 40 hours per week.

Anticipated Duration: Duration of position is up to one year, dependent on number of hours worked per week, though may not exceed a total of 1040 hours.

Salary: Depends on relevant education and/or experience. There are no benefits with this position.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, as a limited duration employee, performs one or more of a variety of tasks and assigned duties of a seasonal nature.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Assists with a wide range of administrative support and technical functions, including but not limited to performing records management and administrative tasks such as Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) responses, scanning, data entry, records review and filing, office organization, and scheduling; and technical assignments such as reviewing registrations and supporting documentation, reviewing analytical data, and preparing correspondence.  Assigned duties commensurate with experience and education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Ability to follow instructions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Coursework in environmental studies.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Incumbents in this class who are assigned as supervisors of small recreational units will perform emergency first aid as needed and will be required to obtain and retain a Basic First Aid Certificate.

2. Incumbents in this class may be required for certain positions to meet any of the following:

a. Proof of possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license.

b. Possession of a valid license to apply pesticides.

c. College training in a specific field.

d. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification may be required by specific State facilities.

3. Incumbents performing lifeguard services must have and retain an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding Certification (includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid). An EMT or MRT certification may be substituted for the CPR and First Aid requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class.

2. Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills.
