In the Department of Developmental Services this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in Day Services including teaching strategies, providing direct support to individuals with an intellectual disability, or performing duties related to development and implementation of in-service programs.

DAY SERVICES:

• Develops teaching strategies consistent with goals of Office of Protection and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities (OPS)/Follow Along Plan (FAP); 
• Provides individual supports for individual specific needs as they relate to employment (individual job, group, sheltered) or habilitation; 
• Participates in person centered planning such as career planning, individual designs, Individual Plan (IP), transitional meetings and futures planning; 
• Consults with individuals (consumer, supporter and/or families) regarding program plans, futures plans and desired outcomes; 
• Assesses job compatibility for individuals; 
• Identifies and develops natural supports; 
• Assists with adaptation of materials (tools and equipment) to individuals ability; 
• Identifies and develops community resources and matches with individual interests; 
• Participates in intra-regional and intra-facility committees and work groups; 
• Transports individuals; 
• Administers medication, CPR and first aid; 
• Utilizes physical/psychological management training (PMT); 
• May conduct, with supervision, individual assessments using standardized instruments for evaluation; 
• Performs related duties as required.

IN-SERVICE:

• Develops, prepares and conducts in-service training programs to agency staff, including but not limited to physical/psychological management training, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and abuse and neglect prevention; 
• Tracks employee registration, attendance and course completion using a web-based learning management system; 
• Conducts new employee orientation which may include the use of web-based College of Direct Support (CDS); 
• Conducts various presentations using multi-media equipment or computer-based presentation software; 
• Schedules training sessions and attendees; 
• Prepares reports; 
• Performs related duties as required.

• Knowledge of
  • current practices and trends in services and supports for individuals with an intellectual disability; 
  • principles and techniques of in-service training; 
  • education methods and techniques including computer based training and related equipment; 
  • state agencies and community organizations and supports as they relate to services for individuals with an intellectual disability; 
  • processes and material used in specific vocations and trades; 
  • relevant equipment and emergency procedures; 
  • interdisciplinary process for development of individual supports;

Four (4) years of experience in providing direct service to individuals with an intellectual disability.

• Experience with adapting and implementing various opportunities for creative activities for elderly individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

• Incumbents in this class may be required to maintain CPR, PMT, Medication Administration and First Aid certificates.
  
• Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.

DAY SERVICES: Incumbents in this class may be required to lift individuals and/or use behavioral or physical intervention and may be exposed to risk of injury or exposure to occupational disease.
