The State of Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) invites its current eligible agency employees to apply for the position of Head Motor Vehicle Examiner within Branch Operations.

NOTE: The current vacancy for this job posting will be filled at the Danbury Branch.  Future vacancies at other DMV branch locations will be filled as they become available.  Those anticipated vacancies may be at the following locations: Bridgeport, Cheshire Testing Center, Enfield, Hamden, New Britain, Norwalk, Norwich, Old Saybrook, Waterbury, Wethersfield.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Tuesday - Saturday
    • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday: 7:30 AM - 4:45 PM
    • Thursday: 9:00 AM - 6:15 PM
    • Saturday: 7:45 AM - 12:45 PM
  • Full-time (40 hours per week)
  • First shift
  • Location: The current vacancy is in Danbury, CT, with additional anticipated vacancies at locations listed above.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Motor Vehicles branch offices and units within the central office this class is accountable for acting as a working supervisor for a unit responsible for the issuance of operators' licenses, titles and/or registrations.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Assigns duties and reviews results for accuracy, effectiveness and conformance with policy;
  • Reviews and evaluates courtesy and attitude toward the public and other employees;
  • Studies and analyzes office tasks performed;
  • Oversees and coordinates the daily work involved in the issuance of official motor vehicle documents;
  • Prioritizes, schedules and assigns duties;
  • Maintains proper workflow;
  • Provides on the job training to unit staff;
  • Resolves individual work-related problems;
  • Maintains daily records;
  • Orders supplies;
  • Ensures the accuracy and efficiency of unit work;
  • Completes inventory and production reports;
  • Obtains from and provides information to a variety of personnel within other divisions, departments or the public;
  • Examines and processes applications and supporting documentation;
  • Issues official documents;
  • Operates automated and other office equipment;
  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Considerable knowledge of
    • the functions and activities of the Department of Motor Vehicles;
    • office systems and procedures;
  • Knowledge of record-keeping;

    • in operating office equipment;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Five (5) years of clerical experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of the General Experience must have involved the issuance of official documents requiring the examination of applications and supporting documentation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

  • College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Motor Vehicle Examiner or one (1) year of experience as a Motor Vehicle Examiner Specialist may be substituted for the General and Special Experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in a branch office
  • Experience providing customer service to individuals from multicultural backgrounds
  • Experience providing training to coworkers and new staff on DMV systems navigation and document examinations
  • Experience with Issuance of driver's Licenses, Non-Driver Identifications, Registrations, and review of required documents
  • Experience managing tasks or priorities while meeting deadlines in a customer service setting
  • Experience serving the public in face-to-face settings and de-escalating customer issues
  • Experience performing operational tasks such as reviewing and processing documents for accuracy and completeness
  • Experience leading staff in a face-to-face customer service environment and coordinating daily workflow
  • Experience assigning, prioritizing, and reviewing staff work to ensure compliance with agency policies and procedures
  • Experience working with SalesForce appointment scheduler and MPay (Main Payment) processes
  • Experience preparing and maintaining operational records, production reports, inventories, and administrative documentation in accordance with branch operations guidelines
