The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) – is currently recruiting for a 1st Shift Head Nurse position Ella T. Grasso Technical High School in Groton, CT.
We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and experienced Head Nurse to lead the school’s Nursing Office in a dynamic technical high school environment. In this role, the Head Nurse will provide comprehensive health counseling and medical support services to students and staff while fostering a safe, healthy, and supportive school community. The Head Nurse will serve as a key member of the crisis intervention team, assess and respond to medical concerns, administer first aid and medications as needed, and maintain accurate health records and reporting.
This position is supported by the agency Nurse Supervisor, regional Float Nurses, Substitute Nurses, and the School-Based Health Center, ensuring a collaborative and well-resourced healthcare environment. The schedule follows a regular 10-month academic calendar, with potential opportunities for summer employment based on district availability.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently while managing a wide range of student health needs. Responsibilities include providing health education and counseling, performing routine evaluative procedures and tests, coordinating referrals and follow-up care, ensuring proper storage of controlled medications, and carrying out related nursing duties as required.

Graduates earn a Connecticut high school diploma, CTE certificate in their field of study, and multiple stackable credentials giving them the “competitive edge.” These credentials include but are not limited to state occupational licensure, national technical skill competency certifications, and industry-recognized credentialing. Many students secure job placements before graduation, while others continue their education at colleges, universities, or registered apprenticeships.
