POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:

  • SCHEDULE: Full-Time (37.5 Hour), First Shift, Monday-Friday
  • LOCATION: Middletown, CT
  • PLEASE NOTE: 
    • This is a durational position; the selected candidate will work for less than 6 months.
    • Applicant will be initially placed in a vacancy under durational appointment. This appointment may be extended. Benefits and leaves will be subject to the appropriate collective bargaining contract language and Connecticut General Statutes.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

The statewide deliverIT CT service is a busy statewide operation, which requires working on your feet for most of a 7.5-hr shift. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Servicing a pre-determined delivery route;
  • Sorting inbound and outgoing items to their proper destinations;
  • Loading and sorting bins at a sorting facility;
  • Loading and unloading a ¾ ton van;
  • Regular maintenance functions;
  • Duties determined by the Supervisor of Transportation; and
  • Performing related duties as required.

The Museum of Connecticut History, a unit of the Connecticut State Library, chronicles the growth of the state and its role in the development of the nation from the colonial era to the present. The mission of the museum is to connect the experience of residents and museum visitors to the artifacts, images, and documents of the past, increasing awareness of and pride in the state’s political, military, and industrial history and building commitment to preserving and sharing its cultural heritage.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for performing basic tasks of an unskilled nature (e.g. requiring little prior experience or training; most tasks can be learned quickly on the job) in one or several of the following areas:

  • Building and equipment maintenance (operational and remedial);
  • Grounds care;
  • Food services;
  • Operation of trucks of less than five (5) ton capacity;
  • Parking garage.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any experience and training which provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Commercial Route Delivery.
  • Experience lifting items up to 45lbs for the duration of a 7.5-hour shift.
  • Experience navigating statewide routes as a delivery driver using Global Positioning System (GPS).
  • Experience with Customer Service.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility, visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the class.
  • A physical examination may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to extreme weather conditions and risk of injury from equipment and assaultive and/or abusive patients and/or clients.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to complete an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines for operations and maintenance during employment in this class. Incumbents may be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
