The State of Connecticut, Department of Social Services (DSS) – is accepting applications for one (1) Accountant position located in Hartford, CT.
The State of Connecticut, Department of Social Services is seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented professional to join our Division of Fiscal Services Budget Unit as an Accountant. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting the agency’s financial operations by maintaining accurate records, analyzing financial data, and contributing to sound fiscal management practices that directly impact programs serving communities across the state.
As an Accountant, you will be responsible for handling complex journal entries, preparing financial statements, and interpreting accounting records to ensure accuracy and compliance. You will collaborate with senior staff on the development and implementation of accounting procedures and systems, while also supporting budget management activities through analysis of program proposals, expenditure projections, and monthly reporting.
This position offers the opportunity to engage in a wide range of fiscal responsibilities, including monitoring grant program finances, reviewing expenditures for compliance, and providing technical assistance to program partners. You will also contribute to improving accounting controls and business practices, utilize electronic data processing systems for financial reporting and analysis, and may oversee certain bookkeeping or accounts functions. In a state agency this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in professional accounting.
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been at the paraprofessional level. Work at the paraprofessional level requires exercise of some independent judgment in applying basic accounting principles and may be compared to the level of a full charge bookkeeper.
NOTE: For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of an Assistant Accountant.
