POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
  • These positions are per diem with day/evening hours and the potential for week and/or weekend events.
  • The salary for Inspector will be $125.00 per event, contest, or exhibition; Lead Inspector will be $175.00 per event, contest, or exhibition. 
  • Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts Inspectors are necessary for the safety and well-being of Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts fighters and for the safe regulation of Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts events. 
Inspectors are responsible for the following, but are not limited to these responsibilities; 
  • Inspecting the premises;
  • Ring and equipment prior to the arrival of contestants;
  • Being paired with a contestant throughout the event and ensuring the integrity of the competition by ensuring no equipment and/or procedural violation occurs;
  • Wrapping of hands prior to gloves;
  • Assisting with drug testing;
  • Ensuring no contraband is possessed by the contestant or his/her team; and
  • Ensuring no performance enhancing food or drug is ingested prior to the event.

        DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY SERVICES AND PUBLIC PROTECTION:
        Candidates selected for an interview must provide the following at the time of interview: 

        State Employees:
        • Two (2) most recent performance evaluations
        • Completed CT-HR-13
        Non-State Employees:
        • Two (2) professional references contact information including name, email and phone number (at least one being a current and/or previous supervisor)
        • Completed CT-HR-13
          Candidates who have been selected for employment with the Department of Emergency Services & Public Protection are subject to a detailed background investigation, including a fingerprint supported state and federal criminal history record check along with reference checks. Selection for employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of the background investigation. Any pending disciplinary history within the past 2 years and review of attendance records are also considered in this selection process.

          PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

          In the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection this class is accountable for the performance of duties associated with the regulation of the sports of boxing and mixed martial arts in accordance with C.G.S. Chapter 532a.

          EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

          • Enforces all rules and regulations for boxing and mixed martial arts events; 
          • Inspects and validates the proper use of protective equipment; 
          • Inspects wrapping of fighters’ hands and gloving; 
          • Validates compliance with regulatory standards; 
          • Verifies proper license of participant at event; 
          • Inspects facilities for compliance of state fire safety regulation and emergency medical equipment requirements; 
          • Ensures order and safety around the ring and locker room; 
          • Completes incident reports; 
          • Assists officials during event; 
          • Administers or assists with drug testing procedures; 
          • Exhibits and ensures neutrality during event to avoid impropriety; 
          • Performs related duties as required.

          KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

          • Knowledge of
            • boxing and mixed martial arts inspection procedures; 
            • relevant agency policies and procedures; 
            • relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations; 
          • Considerable
            • interpersonal skills;
            • oral and written communication skills.

          MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

          A proven record of experience and knowledge of the sport and or successful completion of a training program for Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts Inspector approved by the Commissioner of Emergency Services and Public Protection.

          PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

          • Experience as a trainer or cornerman for Boxing or Mixed Martial Arts;
          • Experience as an employee of a commission that has regulated Boxing or Mixed Martial Arts in the past; and
          • Experience as an Inspector in any combat sporting field.
